A pair of Game 4s are set to take place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this evening, with the battle between the Hurricanes and Rangers being the most enticing in terms of wagering opportunities.

Below you will find a wager from this game that is available at PointsBet.

For those unfamiliar with the term “overlay,” it simply refers to odds that are higher than an outcome’s true probability.

For example, if an outcome has a 50% chance of happening, the correlating odds would be +100.

If the odds offered on that specific event are +150, or an implied probability of 40%, then the price would represent an overlay.

Admittedly this has been a much closer series than I thought it would be, with the Rangers proving to be a formidable foe for the Hurricanes.

It is no surprise that the goaltenders in this series have been the focal point, with both Igor Shesterkin and Antti Raanta delivering tremendous performances to this point.

Shesterkin boasts a save percentage of 95.6% through three games, while Raanta has been even better, stopping 96.3% of the shots he’s faced.

With each goaltender playing as well as they have, a game like tonight will likely come down to an unforced error or an exceptional effort from one of the more skilled players on either side.

Mika Zibanejad stepped up in Game 3 following a couple of lackluster performances in the first two games of the series, scoring and assisting on two of New York’s goals en route to a 3-1 win on Sunday.

Carolina, meanwhile, hasn’t had one player truly step up and take the reins.

Sebastian Aho made his presence felt in the Hurricanes’ Game 2 victory, but a subpar Game 3 effort leaves something to be desired.

If Aho can regain his best form and the Canes can get contributions from players like Andrei Svechnikov and Vinny Trocheck – both of whom have been on the quieter side – Carolina should be tough to beat at Madison Square Garden this evening.

Based on my numbers, the Hurricanes defeat the Rangers in New York 53.8% of the time, suggesting their current moneyline price of -105 (implied probability of 51.2%) is an overlay worth considering.

Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers – Hurricanes ML (-105)
