Tucker Barnhart - Cincinnati Reds (vs. Miami Marlins - SP Zach Thompson)
Tucker Barnhart is projected for 9.2 DKFP at a salary of $2,600. Barnhart has hit six of his seven total home runs against opposing righties and carries a .297 BA in the month of August (37 AB). Considering his reasonable salary, Barnhart is a viable one off play as well as a valuable piece to a Cincinnati stack. Thompson has a 3.86 road ERA. Thompson has only allowed four homeruns this season, but three were allowed in the last 30 days. Barnhart is a logical first step when constructing your DFS lineups.
Other option: Mitch Garver
Anthony Rizzo - New York Yankees (vs. Minnesota Twins - SP John Gant)
Anthony Rizzo is projected for 11.4 DKFP at a salary of $3,700. Although Rizzo is batting much better against opposing left handed pitching, I still like him tonight against the right handed John Gant. Gant has allowed five home runs to opposing left-handed hitters so far this season.Lefties own a .745 OPS against Gant. The Yankees are on a six game winning streak and I expect that to continue tonight against a Twins team that have looked good themselves, winning four of their last five games. I don't know if a Yankees stack is necessary, but I do expect there to be at least two home runs in this game - One of them goes to Rizzo. Home run call.
Other option: Joey Votto
Jorge Polanco - Minnesota Twins (vs. New York Yankees - SP Jameson Taillon)
While I don't necessarily think stacking either of these teams is the play, there are one off opportunities. Jorge Polanco is another example (in addition to Rizzo) of a one-off from this game worth rostering. Polanco is projected for 13.7 DK FP at a salary of $3,200. Minnesota’s Shortstop has a .276 BA with 16 of his 21 total home runs against opposing right-handed pitching this season. Taillon has been pitching very well over his last five starts posting a 1.80 ERA. Invest in both sides of this one!
Other option: Max Muncy
Nolan Arenado - St. Louis Cardinals (vs. Milwaukee Brewers - SP Brandon Woodruff)
The NBC Sports Edge DFS optimizer has Nolan Arenado projected for 12.6 DK FP at a salary of $4,900. Considering we’re dealing with a small four-game slate tonight, being different and investing in multiple one off plays is the contrarian strategy you'll need to take down a GPP tournament.
Other option: Justin Turner
Trae Turner - Los Angeles Dodgers (vs. New York Mets - SP Taijuan Walker)
The NBC Sports Edge DFS optimizer has Turner projected for 13.0 DKFP at a salary of $5,600. It’s very important to build your lineups in a unique way tonight. With only four games, this is the night to get different. My strategy for slates like tonight include rostering high upside batters and avoiding stacking. Trae Turner is the perfect one off from this matchup. Small slate, think different in order to win the big bucks.
Other option: Jazz Chisholm
Aaron Judge - New York Yankees (vs. Minnesota Twins - SP John Gant)
Judge is another player in this Minnesota vs. New York matchup that I will be investing in tonight. The more I look at tonight’s slate, this game is in fact stackable. As I mentioned above, Gant is susceptible to homer’s by lefties but righties have hit him well too batting .240 over 175 at- bats. Gant and the Yankees have been very unpredictable but both offenses and starting pitchers have the ability to produce tonight. Invest in both sides of this matchup. This is my GPP matchup of the night.
