Welcome to the NFL GPP Pivots article, where we’ll be looking to uncover some sneaky-good DFS plays away from the popular lifts. These recommendations are usually risk/reward commodities meant to be used in large-field tournaments. Typically, blending these low-owned hidden gems with well-aligned staples contributes to a viable GPP strategy.

Keep in mind that the following player write-ups were constructed earlier in the week, and sometimes injury situations can alter the fantasy landscape. Monitoring our NFL News & Headlines Feed up until game time will keep you in the loop while giving you the subsequent DFS consequences of each information piece.

We will be looking at Sunday’s main slate, so Sunday and Monday Night Football are not included in the following analysis.

QUARTERBACK

Taylor Heinicke - Washington (at Atlanta) - DK: $5,900 FD: $7,400 Yahoo: $26

Is Heinicke a good quarterback? I’m not really sure. Can he rack up 20-25 fantasy points this weekend? Absolutely! The jury is still out on Heinicke’s overall effectiveness, but the Old Dominion product has produced 21+ fantasy points in back-to-back games. Now he’ll get his best matchup of the young season, facing an Atlanta team that has allowed the third-most fantasy points to QBs. There’s a good chance Heinicke will toss a pair of touchdowns for the third straight game, and a handful of rushing attempts (with the outside chance of a TD) gives up additional upside.

Also Consider: Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater

RUNNING BACK

David Montgomery - Chicago (vs. Detroit) - DK: $5,800 FD: $7,500 Yahoo: $21

Montgomery paid off in Week 1, but he hasn’t done much in the past two games. DFS participants subscribe to the “what have you done for me lately” mindset, so there’s a chance Montgomery has lower than deserved support in tournaments. That’s despite a plum matchup vs. Detroit, who has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to RBs this season. The Bears were miserable on offense last week, but a softer matchup should give them an opportunity to redeem themselves. Look for Montgomery to pace that initiative.

Miles Sanders - Philadelphia (vs. Kansas City) - DK: $6,400 FD: $6,500 Yahoo: $21

Sanders saw two carries and four targets last Monday at Dallas. Game flow wasn’t on his side, and head coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged after the game that Sanders needs more touches. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Look for Philadelphia to get back to Sanders and their rushing attack against a Kansas City team that has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to RBs this season.

Also Consider: Chase Edmonds, D’Andre Swift

WIDE RECEIVER

Robby Anderson - Carolina (at Dallas) - DK: $5,100 FD: $5,700 Yahoo: $15

The squeaky wheel gets the grease: part two. Anderson hasn’t done much this season, catching five passes for 103 yards and a touchdown through three games. Last Thursday’s matchup vs. Houston was a low point, as the Carolina WR hauled in one reception for eight yards. The Panthers didn’t need Anderson in that victory. It’s possible they’ll need him in a tricky road matchup at Dallas. Expect the Panthers to throw more and prioritize Anderson in the process. That could especially hold true with Christian McCaffrey still sidelined.

Courtland Sutton - Denver (vs. Baltimore) - DK: $5,700 FD: $6,300 Yahoo: $19

Sutton comes from a similar angle as Anderson in the previous write-up. Both the Panthers and Broncos haven’t had to throw much this season. That could change when facing tougher matchups in Week 4. As for Sutton, he steps into a WR1 role with Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler out for the Broncos. Sutton showed flashes of upside with a sweet 9-159 showing on 12 targets against Jacksonville in Week 2. Expect Denver to throw more than usual in a close game against the Ravens, which could push Sutton beyond double-digit targets once again.

Also Consider: Terry McLaurin, Allen Robinson, Odell Beckham Jr.

TIGHT END

Logan Thomas - Washington (at Atlanta) - DK: $4,900 FD: $5,800 Yahoo: $23

Thomas was labeled as a sleeper candidate heading into the season, and he really hasn’t lived up to that hype after three weeks. The production hasn’t been terrible, but we haven’t seen any signs of explosiveness either. Things could change against an Atlanta team that has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to TEs this season. In two games against legitimate tight ends, the Falcons let Rob Gronkowski go for 4-39-2 and Philadelphia TEs combined for 7-76-1. That has me looking towards an underrated Heinicke-Thomas stack in tournaments.

Also Consider: Tyler Conklin, Noah Fant
