NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE's player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Wednesday is a busy night with 14 games scheduled.

Forwards:

Alex Ovechkin (Washington) – W - $9,300 FanDuel, $9,300 DraftKings, $34 Yahoo

With a nearly full schedule, there’s no shortage of elite forwards to consider tonight. I’m a little hesitant to go with Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid given that they’re on the second half of a back-to-back, plus Ovechkin is cheaper and is having a similarly amazing season. He has 15 goals and 30 points in 19 contests. He hasn’t slowed down at all either, with three goals and four points in his last two games.

Jake Guentzel (Pittsburgh) – W - $7,800 FanDuel, $6,200 DraftKings, $24 Yahoo

Guentzel is entering tonight’s game on a five-game goal scoring streak and six-game point streak. Even if he wasn’t hot though, he’d be worth considering at his current price point. Guentzel is a high-end forward who is having another great season with eight goals and 15 points in 17 contests.

Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota) – W - $7,400 FanDuel, $7,100 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

Kaprizov has been on a roll lately with two goals and seven points in his last three games. After winning the Calder Trophy, he’s managed to build on that in his sophomore campaign. He already has five goals and 18 points in 18 games in 2021-22.

Nazem Kadri (Colorado) – C - $7,100 FanDuel, $6,900 DraftKings, $22 Yahoo

Kadri has been one of the most pleasant surprises this season. He’s always been a solid forward, but with Nathan MacKinnon (lower body) sidelined, he’s stepped up in a huge way for the Avalanche. Kadri has six goals and 23 points in 15 contests. He’s on a nine-game point streak and has recorded multiple points in each of his last four contests.

Chris Kreider (NY Rangers) – W - $7,000 FanDuel, $6,100 DraftKings, $20 Yahoo

Kreider has had no trouble scoring goals this season. In fact, he has more games this season where he has found the back of the net (11) than when he hasn’t (seven). He’s already up to 13 goals and 16 points in 18 contests as a result. He’ll slow down at some point, but he hasn’t yet, so he’s worth gambling on for now, particularly on DraftKings and Yahoo where his price is a bit more favorable.

Dylan Larkin (Detroit) – C - $6,900 FanDuel, $6,700 DraftKings, $20 Yahoo

Larkin struggled last season with nine goals and 23 points in 44 contests, but he’s bounced right back in 2021-22. He has nine goals and 16 points in 16 contests this season. He’s also been particularly effective lately, scoring at least a point in each of his last five games.

Bargain Bin: David Perron (STL) - $6,500 FanDuel/$5,600 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Ryan Getzlaf (ANA) - $6,000 FanDuel/$5,400 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Victor Olofsson (BUF) - $5,900 FanDuel/$5,700 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Jordan Eberle (SEA) - $5,800 FanDuel/$5,300 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo, Trevor Zegras (ANA) - $5,600 FanDuel/$3,700 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Lucas Raymond (DET) - $5,400 FanDuel/$5,000 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Ryan Strome (NYR) - $5,400 FanDuel/$4,700 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Kevin Fiala (MIN) - $5,300 FanDuel/$5,900 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo, Martin Necas (CAR) - $5,200 FanDuel/$3,700 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Jaden Schwartz (SEA) - $5,000 FanDuel/$3,900 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo

Defensemen:

Cale Makar (Colorado) - $7,100 FanDuel, $7,400 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

Makar is a good bet under any circumstances, but he’s been especially effective lately. He’s on a three-game multi-point streak and has recorded multiple points in six of his last nine contests. Despite a bit of a slow start to the season, he has seven goals and 15 points in 13 games.

Aaron Ekblad (Florida) - $6,500 FanDuel, $7,100 DraftKings, $23 Yahoo

Ekblad is an especially good bet on FanDuel given his price on that site, but he’s also worth considering on DraftKings and Yahoo. He will go into tonight’s contest on a four-game point streak. He’s been one of the better offensive defensemen this season with five goals and 15 points in 18 contests.

Bargain Bin: Shea Theodore (VGK) - $6,400 FanDuel/$6,300 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, John Carlson (WAS) - $6,400 FanDuel/$6,800 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Zach Werenski (CLM) - $6,200 FanDuel/$7,200 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo, Tony DeAngelo (CAR) - $5,200 FanDuel/$5,900 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo

Goaltenders:

Mikko Koskinen (Edmonton) - $8,400 FanDuel, $8,300 DraftKings, $37 Yahoo

I wasn’t hesitant to recommend McDavid or Draisaitl on the second half of a back-to-back, but Koskinen will be going into this game fresh. More importantly, he’ll be facing the Arizona Coyotes, which are dead last in the league offensively with just 1.79 goals per game. It seems like as good a time as any to go with him.

Ilya Samsonov (Washington) - $8,100 FanDuel, $8,200 DraftKings, $30 Yahoo

It seems fair to say that Samsonov is one of the hottest goaltender in the league right now. He’s coming off back-to-back shutouts and he’s had three perfect games over his last five contests. That’s given him a 6-0-1 record, 2.11 GAA, and .924 save percentage in eight games this season.

Bargain Bin: Jack Campbell (TOR) - $8,000 FanDuel/$7,900 DraftKings/$39 Yahoo, Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) - $8,000 FanDuel/$7,700 DraftKings/$25 Yahoo, Juuse Saros (NAS) - $7,700 FanDuel/$7,900 DraftKings/$31 Yahoo, Tristan Jarry (PIT) - $7,500 FanDuel/$8,100 DraftKings/$36 Yahoo, Scott Wedgewood (ARI) - $7,000 FanDuel/$7,100 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo
