Patriots (-1.5) at Eagles: O/U 38.5

Neither Cam Newton or Mac Jones recorded a rushing or passing touchdown, but New England was still able to win.

The Patriot way.

It was just preseason, I will admit, but the Patriots looked better than expected. Jones finished with 13-of-19 completions for 87 yards and led the Patriots to two field goals.

Cam Newton led New England to one field goal on four completions and seven attempts for 49 yards. New England won 22-13, while Philadelphia lost 24-16 to Pittsburgh on August 12th, which seems like an eternity ago.

Joe Flacco will continue to get most of the reps, but we could see Jalen Hurts for more than two drives.

Hurts led Philly to a field goal and punt, so we know all quarterbacks involved can at least get some points on the board as Flacco had a touchdown on 178 passing yards and 17 attempts (10 completions).

The total is set at a high 38.5 on PointsBet, which could be out of my range for backing the Over.

NE - PHI

Both teams combined for 35 and 40 points in their first preseason games and none of the quarterbacks mentioned had a turnover.

The Eagles allowed 17 points in the second half and didn't score a point, while the Patriots scored 16 points and allowed six. I think we see those numbers middle out and each team combine for 17 or fewer in the second half.

I expect a turnover or two to halt a few drives and we see more backups in the second half as teams look to trim their rosters.

I would look at the Under 38.5 as 13 of the first 16 preseason games went Under this total.

Pick: Eagles-Patriots Under 38.5
