For the first time in several weeks, Dustin Johnson will tee it up in a PGA Tour event as something other than the pre-tournament betting favorite.
Johnson is still the world No. 1, and he'll defend his Masters green jacket in two short weeks. But this week at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play he's looking up at a few names on the early odds sheet, which is topped by Justin Thomas.
Thomas won The Players two weeks ago, and he headlines a notable four-player group in this week's event: his round-robin matches will be against Louis Oosthuizen and the two players that advanced to the finals the last time this was held in 2019, Matt Kuchar and defending champ Kevin Kisner.
Right behind Thomas (+1100) are Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau (+1200). Rahm is grouped this week with Ryan Palmer, Shane Lowry and Sebastian Munoz, while DeChambeau will face Tommy Fleetwood, Si Woo Kim and Antoine Rozner. Johnson (+1300) is next in line and drew Kevin Na, Robert MacIntyre and Adam Long.
This week's format places the 64-man field at Austin Country Club into 16 groups of four players each. Group play will be conducted Wednesday-Friday, with the winners from each group advancing to the knockout Round of 16 which will begin Saturday morning.
