Second Baseman Rankings
Dropping off: Erik Gonzalez (38th), Cory Spangenberg (41st), Yangervis Solarte (43rd)
- Nick Senzel could take over as the Reds’ starting center fielder this weekend. I’m not as excited about his fantasy potential as some are, but it helps a bunch that he shouldn’t be a zero in any category. He comes in 11th here, and I’d probably push him ahead of Robinson Cano if I felt a little bit better about his ability to stay healthy while learning a new position.
- It’s tempting to write Brian Dozier off after his latest slow start, but he’s currently sporting his best exit velocity and hard-hit rate of the Statcast era. It comes with easily his highest strikeout rate, too, but they seem like reasons not to give up on him yet. That will change if he’s still struggling when Trea Turner comes off the IL.
Jays prospect Cavan Biggio and Brewers youngster Keston Hiura both crack the rankings after hot starts. The 24-year-old Biggio is crushing it for Triple-A Buffalo, hitting .348/.471/.565 with four homers and two steals. He has a pretty obvious path to the majors, especially in light of Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s throwing troubles. Hiura, who is hitting .318/.351/.682 with seven homers in 88 at-bats, is going to have a more difficult time overtaking Travis Shaw in Milwaukee unless someone gets hurt.
