Latch onto Lightning and Golden Knights

Jake Allen jumped from 29% to 43% thanks to a couple of starts this week, which were both victories. He ended up splitting time in the crease with Carey Price, which was speculated to happen. Allen has value as a spot starter and as a depth option for deeper leagues moving forward. Vincent Trocheck went from being rostered in 28% of Yahoo leagues a week ago to 46%. Christian Dvorak also had his rostered percentage increase substantially after he appeared on Waiver Wired last week. He went from 10% to 42%. Hopefully, you picked up James Reimer when you had the chance if you were in need of a goaltender. He went from 15% last week to 55%.

Let’s get into this week’s suggestions:

Alex Killorn (Tampa Bay) - LW, RW - Rostered in 28% of Yahoo leagues

Much like Jake Allen from a week ago, Killorn is on the higher-end of the rostered spectrum for this column, but he is largely available going into a potentially busy week for the Lightning. Tampa Bay has four games scheduled, which includes two-game sets versus Nashville and Florida. Killorn has been productive this season with two goals and six points in nine outings. He has also been credited with 20 shots and eight hits. Killorn’s three-game point streak came to an end on Friday, but he should be able to get back on track quickly. He has been skating on the second line of the Lightning, while occupying a spot on the top power-play unit.

Alec Martinez (Vegas) - D - Rostered in 28% of Yahoo leagues

Martinez has contributed five assists, nine shots, 29 blocks and 10 hits in eight games this season. He ranks third overall among skaters in blocked shots. Martinez has been playing with Shea Theodore on the top pairing due to the absence of Alex Pietrangelo (COVID protocol) and he’s seeing time on the second power-play combination. Vegas also has a potentially busy upcoming schedule with four games on tap.

Pavel Buchnevich (NY Rangers) - RW - Rostered in 25% of Yahoo leagues

Buchnevich has collected one goal and three assists in his last five contests. He has been credited with 16 shots on target during that stretch. Buchnevich ranks second on the Rangers with eight points (three goals, five assists) and he has the third-most goals on the club. He has been playing alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider at even strength, while seeing time on the top power-play unit. New York also has four games slated for this coming week.

Tanner Pearson (Vancouver) - LW - Rostered in 19% of Yahoo leagues

Pearson has heated up with four goals and two assists in the past eight games. He has compiled 25 shots on goal during that span. Pearson has spent most of his playing time alongside Nils Hoglander, while seeing time with top-two centers Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson.

Tyler Johnson (Tampa Bay) - C, RW - Rostered in 9% of Yahoo leagues

Johnson’s three-game point streak was halted on Friday, but he has been playing better recently on Tampa Bay’s second line with Killorn and Anthony Cirelli. He has some upside as a short-term pickup due to Tampa Bay’s busy schedule this week. Barclay Goodrow (4%) could be worthy of a flier as well.

Scott Laughton (Philadelphia) - C, LW - Rostered in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Laughton has generated one goal, three assists, seven shots and 13 hits in his last six matches. He has posted decent numbers across several categories and could be worthy of a flier in deeper leagues with the Flyers set to play four times this coming week. However, it should be noted that could change quickly if New Jersey isn’t ready to resume playing from their COVID problems.

Mike Smith (Edmonton) - G - Rostered in 6% of Yahoo leagues

Smith could return to the Edmonton lineup this coming week and he should jump right into action to help out overworked netminder Mikko Koskinen. The Oilers open the week with a back-to-back set versus Ottawa and Smith should see his faire share of starts this campaign. He hasn’t played yet due to what is believed to be a leg injury. Smith played well in spurts last year and he could make for a solid depth option.

Jack Roslovic (Columbus) - C, RW - Rostered in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Roslovic has started to heat up, as he has grown more comfortable with Columbus. He has one goal and three assists during a three-game point streak going into Sunday's action. Roslovic has played with a variety of linemates as a member of the Blue Jackets. He was flanked by Patrik Laine and Cam Atkinson during Saturday’s practice.

Cody Glass (Vegas) - C, RW - Rostered in 4% of Yahoo leagues

It’s been difficult for Vegas to keep Glass in the lineup because of cap constraints, but he has been productive when he’s played with two goals and one assist in four appearances. He logged a season-high 16:29 of ice time on Friday and scored a power-play goal against Los Angeles. Glass had a spot on the top unit because of Pietrangelo’s absence. He has been centering the third line alongside Alex Tuch (17%). If Glass is too risky despite his upside then Tuch may prove to be worthy of a flier instead.

Philipp Kurashev (Chicago) - C, RW - Rostered in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Kurashev has notched two goals and two assists over a three-game point streak. He has five shots and one power-play marker during that span. Kurashev has been playing on the second unit with the man advantage, while centering Patrick Kane and Mattias Janmark during even-strength situations. Kurashev is tied for rookie lead in goals with teammate Pius Suter and Tim Stutzle. He has lit the lamp four times and he has added two assists through 11 matches this season.

As a bonus for this week I’m recommending Nashville’s Mikael Granlund (12%) and Florida's Carter Verhaeghe (29%) again. They both appeared on Waiver Wired last week when they were rostered in 10% and 16% of Yahoo leagues, respectively.
