Joe Ingles suffers torn ACL – done for the season

Unfortunately, Joe Ingles, who is 34 years old and in the final year of his contract, tore the ACL in his left knee on Sunday, and he will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Ingles has a long road ahead of him on the recovery front, and this injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as he’ll be seeking another contract this summer, so I wish him the best moving forward.

As for fantasy hoops, I think that Jordan Clarkson will be the primary beneficiary here, as he’ll not only see an uptick in minutes, but he’ll also have more playmaking responsibilities in the second unit. There could also be more opportunities for guys like Trent Forrest, Rudy Gay and Denzel Valentine, but given how inconsistent those guys have been this season, I’d say it’s a wait-and-see situation in most leagues.

LeBron James (left knee) expected to miss at least six games or none?

LeBron James was sent back to L.A. on Sunday to rest his swollen left knee, and there’s some conflicting reporting on how much time he’s expected to miss. In a piece from Kyle Goon of the OC Registrar, Goon said that head coach Frank Vogel left open the possibility of a Wednesday’s return vs. Portland, but in Dave McMenamin’s piece on ESPN, he reported that Vogel said LBJ could return after the team’s road trip to Portland. That’s the difference between zero games missed and six, but it would be a bit strange to see James sent back early from Sunday’s game when the team was set to fly back to L.A. that night anyway.

Vogel has deployed Malik Monk as a starter twice over the past three games sans James, with Wayne Ellington earning the other start in a game that Monk was sidelined for due to an illness, and guys like Carmelo Anthony, Austin Reaves and Talen Horton-Tucker have been more involved in the rotation – but it’s Monk who has been the most consistent contributor out of this group.

On Sunday, Monk went off for 33 points, 10 rebounds, five dimes, eight triples and just two turnovers through 38 minutes of floor time, so make sure he’s not floating around on your waiver wire. As I’m writing this column, Monk is currently rostered in 49% of Yahoo! Leagues.

Carmelo Anthony also played well earlier this season when King James was out with an abdominal issue, posting averages of 14.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 triples and just 0.7 turnovers per contest on 41.1% shooting from the field and 82.8% at the stripe, so if you missed out on Monk, Melo could be an option if you need a points and triples booster.

As for Austin Reaves and Talen Horton-Tucker, they’ve been too hit-or-miss this season for me to get excited about adding them in most leagues.

Bradley Beal (sprained left wrist) will miss the next two games

This gives Beal a maximum of just one potential game this week, so managers in weekly settings should keep him on their bench. We’ll likely see Corey Kispert move into the first unit while Beal is out, while guys like Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Spencer Dinwiddie will see an uptick in usage. Kispert is worth a look in deep leagues, as he’s registered averages of 12.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.3 triples and just 0.9 turnovers on 52.5% shooting through seven starts this season.
